monthly focus ~ are we too busy

Two Drive-Bys Averted

by Pete and Faye Obgartel from Mali, West Africa

Today has been a remarkable day! It started off busy, yet so very ordinary. Please consider prayerfully what you are about to read. Think about it the next time someone is trying to get your attention and you are almost "too busy."

Today we hauled cement to finish the pastor’s house in N'Darla. As we arrived in the village of Kassela, a young man stepped out onto the road waving his arms. I almost drove by him. I just didn’t have time to stop. But something stopped me from driving by. He came up to the van, and I realized then that I knew him from the village of Zaban. He explained that his wife was at the midwife and had given birth, and he didn't have any money to get her a ride home. So we became the taxi to bring home his wife, grandmother, and sister, and, oh yes, a baby girl about three hours old. Along the way, the sister started asking questions about Christians. As God began to obviously stir her heart, she asked if there would be a place for her in the van so she could come to church and learn more if she was waiting on the corner with the "Christians" on Sunday morning. You can guess what our response was!

Our day continued, and we delivered the cement. On our way back home, a young man was sitting on his bicycle along the side of the road and started waving his arms for us to stop. Again, because of our busy agenda for the day, again we almost did not stop. When I did stop and started talking with the young man, we discovered that he was someone from the other side of Kassela who had helped us to find a Christian family living in his area. As a result of that earlier contact, the young man said he and his wife had been talking, and they were ready to become Christians! On that very busy, ordinary day, we had the privilege of leading them both to Christ.

Then it hit me. I almost drove by both of these young men. God put the opportunities for us to serve Him right in front of us, but we were almost "too busy" to recognize them, driving on by. Thank God we didn’t!
